The FYRA U14 Tier 1 Proactive Therapy Stars have captured the provincial title. The squad opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over Dieppe Impact but then had some trouble dropping games to Moncton (4-3) and Shediac/Cap-Pele (3-2). In a stroke of tournament luck the 1-2 record was enough to squeak into the semi-finals over Dieppe's 0-1-2 record. The Sunday morning re-match against Moncton ended in a 4-2 victory setting the stage for a banner title battle against the Shediac/Cap-Pele Xplosion. Willie O'Ree was abuzz with FYRA wide support creating a spectacular atmosphere for the match. The Stars opened strong and leapt to a 3-0 lead early. The Xplosion took and early time out which sparked the team into a quick 3 goal tally to tie the game. In the final minute of the 1st the teams exchanged goals within 10 seconds of each other with the Xplosion taking the 4-3 lead briefly before Sara Monette buried one to bring things back to even. The 2nd period didn't disappoint and piled on for dramatic finish. The Stars scored 2 goals midway in the frame to a 6-2 lead only to have the Xplosion creep within 1 goal by getting their 5th of the match with 1:32 left on the clock. The final 90 seconds was a flurry of back and forth excitement ending with the Stars in possession of the ring as the team and fans erupted into Provincial Champion victory celebration.
